Dans Takenokolor, vous faites vos débuts en tant que jardinier. Vous devez développer votre bambouseraie, créer des points d'eau et attirer poissons et coccinelles pour faire de votre jardin un petit coin de paradis resplendissant de couleurs. À chaque tour, un joueur lance quatre crayons - vert, jaune, rose et bleu - puis en choisit un. Les autres joueurs choisissent à leur tour l'un des crayons restants, puis tous les joueurs colorient simultanément sur leur feuille, une section de bambou correspondant à la même couleur et au même symbole que l'anneau de crayon qu'ils ont choisi : cercle, carré ou triangle.
