Fargesia robusta ~ Robust BambooRobust Bamboo is a fast growing clumping bamboo with rusty red new shoots that mature to dark green while the culm sheaths lighten to white creating a checkerboard pattern into summer. The sheaths open to reveal light green culms. The plums of dark green foliage hold its color year round. Grows best with afternoon shade in Southern climates and moist well drained soils. Robust Bamboo is non invasive and more sun tolerant than most bamboo. Type: Orn.

Robust Bamboo is a fast growing clumping bamboo with rusty red new shoots that mature to dark green while the culm sheaths lighten to white creating a checkerboard pattern into summer.  The sheaths open to reveal light green  culms.  The plums of dark green foliage hold its color year round.  Grows best with afternoon shade in Southern climates and moist well-drained soils.  Robust Bamboo is non-invasive and more sun tolerant than most bamboo.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS:  Low maintenance plant.  Aphids, spider mites, mealybugs, and scale are occasional problems.  

LANDSCAPE USES: Accents or Group Plantings, Borders, Naturalized Areas, Woodland Garden, Rock Garden, Foundation Plantings, and containers. 

COMPANION PLANTS: Japanese Maple, Azalea, Lily of the Valley
